Get on one of our red double-decker buses and get to know Munich with us. You have only little time planned for a city tour? No problem: The compact CITY TOUR through Munich takes about an hour, depending on traffic conditions. Do you have more time for your CITY TOUR? Our bus drivers stop at 7 stops along the route of the red line. There you can get on and off every 15 to 30 minutes to explore the highlights of the city at your leisure.
The bus tour through Munich’s city center starts at the Hauptbahnhof (H1) and goes north past the Alter Botanischer Garten.
Tip: If the weather is nice, grab a seat on the upper deck and experience the sights of downtown from a privileged, elevated view in the middle of the street.
At the magnificent Königsplatz with its classicist building we turn right and look at the obelisk of King Ludwig I at Karolinenplatz.
15 minutes after the start of the tour we have reached the stop Odeonsplatz (H2). Get off to photograph the Diana Temple while walking through the Hofgarten or visit the Residenz – a museum complex with an old ducal palace. Meanwhile, the red double-decker passes the public sculpture park “Finanzgarten”, the Prince Carl Palace Fountain and the House of Art.
At the Isartor you go straight to the Marienplatz (H3). Here you can walk to the sights of Viktualienmarkt, the Gothic Frauenkirche with its striking two towers and the “Devil’s Step”, and the also Gothic church of Sankt Peter. The oldest church in Munich houses the decorated skeleton of Saint Mundita as a relic; the church tower of Saint Peter offers you a beautiful view of the Marienplatz with its two town halls. Got a rumbling stomach? The Hofbräuhaus serves local beer with traditional Bavarian dishes like homemade white sausages.
You can get back on the train a few 100 meters further on at Max-Josephs-Platz at the opera (H4). There, in addition to the Bayerische Staatsoper, you will find the National Theater, the Residenz Theater, the Residenz Museum and the Antiquarium – an ornate hall with antique sculptures. Art lovers can visit unusual exhibitions at the Kunsthalle München.
The red double-decker continues the CITY TOUR via Maximilianstraße to the east. You will see the Maxmonument and shortly afterwards the fantastic view on the Maximiliansbrücke over the Isar – on the right hand Praterinsel and Praterwehrbrücke, on the left hand the big cascades. Shortly after the Maximilianeum we stop in the district of Haidhausen (H5) at Wiener Platz at the Hofbräukeller. Unpack your “Brotzeit” in the beer garden of the traditional restaurant and order a cool “Maß”!
Passing the Philharmonie at the Gasteig – Europe’s largest cultural center – the bus crosses the Isar river a second time on the CITY TOUR through Munich. You can get off directly in front of the Deutsches Museum (H6) on Museum Island. The Deutsches Museum is a must for technology fans. It is considered one of the largest natural science museums in the world. On about 20,000 m², models and originals from atomic physics to robotics illustrate how technology and the laws of nature work.
Again, we pass the Isartor – this time southwest through the Glockenbachviertel with its many bars and restaurants to Sendlinger Tor. There we head north to Karlsplatz, also called Stachus (H7). If you feel like an exquisite shopping tour, get off here and explore the numerous boutiques, department stores and gift stores between Karlsplatz and Marienplatz in search of a quintessential Munich souvenir. Otherwise, stay seated for a few more minutes and say goodbye to your courteous bus driver at the main train station.
Note: Should we exceptionally not be able to drive you through the city center due to a special security and traffic situation, we have planned an alternative route where you can, among other things, watch the surfers at the Eisbach wave.
Get to know the cosmopolitan city with heart during the one-hour “CITY TOUR” – Hop On Hop Off – round trip in a unique, unusual and unforgettable way.
